Maria Centola

Maria Centola, a distinguished Choir Director, Pianist, and Organist, harmoniously blends her passion for music with a commitment to enhancing her community’s spiritual and cultural life. Originally from Moscow, Russia, Maria’s musical journey spans continents and genres, starting with her Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from Gnessin’s College of Music and continuing with a Graduate Professional Diploma and Master of Music degrees from the Hartt School of Music, University of Hartford.

In her role as an educator, Maria has made significant impacts through teaching at Connecticut College, The Hartt School of Music, University of Connecticut, and Miss Porter's School. Her performance career has been equally notable, with appearances at concerts and international festivals, showcasing her versatility in classical music and Argentine tango across the United States, Russia, Italy, and Spain.

Maria's current focus includes leading Unison Music Academy, where she imparts her knowledge to students, and serving as the Director of Music at Wapping Community Church since 2013. In these roles, she is known for her versatile and engaging music selections. Maria often collaborates with local musicians to create enriching musical experiences and inspires both the choir and congregation through her innovative teaching methods and unwavering dedication.

Maria is part of a musical family with her husband, Markus Centola, a versatile musician, educator and church music director, and their daughter, Sofia, who enjoys singing and piano. Maria finds joy in travel, nature, and concerts, and finds inspiration and relaxation watching the ocean waves.
